Painting Studio Materials List

Welcome to the Painting Studio! Students are welcome to paint in either oil or acrylic in this class. The following outlines basic supplies as well as suggested supplies. You don’t need everything on this list, just the basics to start. We will provide easels, Masonite boards, containers of water or paint thinner, and rags for cleaning. Bring an apron plus your favorite supplies, and we’ll explore new materials and techniques to develop your personal style. We look forward to painting with you! 

 

Basic starting supplies:

2-3 canvases (suggested sizes are 8x10, 9x12, 11x14, 12x16, no larger than 16x20)

9x12 painting paper pad (for either acrylic or oil, Strathmore is good basic brand)

roll of drafting tape

variety of palette knives

variety of brushes

palette (disposable pad or other)

mediums of choice

paints of choice (either oil or acrylic):

            black

            white

            earth tone such as burnt umber or raw umber

            red

            blue

            yellow

            additional paints of choice (see below)

 

Suggested supplies:

All painters:

Two 9x12 in. stretched canvases

One 11x14 in. stretched canvas

Small Palette Knife, such as Liquitex #16

Palette, 9x12 in. disposable sheets

Flat or Bright Hog Bristle Brushes, #2, #4, #6, #8, #10
